The Society for Risk Management is a specialist group established to improve risk assessments and risk analysis in New Zealand. Access online resources about risky business and tap into the networks avialable online.

Our professional development consultants strive to improve the practice of risk assessment for all New Zelaand businesses. The professional development centre includes a number of resources to advance that goal.

The New Zealand Society for Risk Management was established in September 2000.  The first Annual General Meeting was held in Wellington on 5 March 2001.

The purpose of the Society is to improve the knowledge and practice of risk management in New Zealand.

There has been strong interest in the new Society, with membership quickly growing to over 800 from the private and public sectors and academia.

Objectives

  1. promote the principles and theory of risk management
  2. bring together persons and organisations involved in all aspects of risk management
  3. encourage the development and application of best practice in risk management methodology, including approaches that are appropriate in the New Zealand context
  4. develop knowledge about the management of risk
  5. expand communication about risk management practice between organisations involved in risk management, both within New Zealand and in the wider international risk management community
  6. improve the quality of risk management practice
  7. stimulate interest in risk management as a means of improving the quality of life, environmental quality and economic efficiency

Structure

The Society includes Members and Associates as outlined in the Constitution.

It is governed by a Management Committee, elected by the members for a term of two years and supported by an Executive Officer. The Management Committee comprises the Chair, Secretary and six members, one of whom is co-opted. There is also provision to co-opt a further member to ensure appropriate balance and representation of risk management interests.

The Society has Special Interest Groups (SIG's), in a particular geographic area or with a particular interest or focus.

Activities

The Society encourages exchange between members through newsletters, meetings, conferences and events - and the promotion of good practice, for example through case studies and expert speakers. Find out more about coming events.
